Barge cruise photos
Boats eye-view of cruising along the canal, with photos taken during a cruise in July on the Burgundy canal.
The barge is passing through a canal lock and moving upstream, just after the village of Veuvey sur Ouche. Note the bright red coloured geraniums hanging on the rails.
The lock is almost full and the barge is preparing to leave lock number 25 near the Abbey of la Bussiere,
the canal turns to the right and there is an excellent shaded tow-path, ideal for walking and cycling.
Downstream form Saint Victor in the Valley Ouche, the barge begins to line-up to enter the lock. In the background you can see the hills covered with oak and beech trees.
The lock-keeper is stading by the lock in the shade and waiting for the boat.
Leaving the village of Gissey sur Ouche, the morning air is still cool, ahead is lock house 30.
The tow-path is on the right hand side, whilst the left side is called "contre chemain de halage".
The hills ahead lead to the vineyards of the "Hautes cote de Beaune".
Entering lock number 21, near the village of Pont d'Ouche, the water is cascading over the upstream lock doors, the captain stops the barge in the lock and the helps the lock keeper with the doors and sluice gates.
